Scale
Despite the consulting-industry’s recently demonstrated propensity to build pretty and sterile RFID labs for customer pilots, we prefer the cold, loud and sometimes dirty warehouses of our actual customers.
Why?
The simple reason is that while RFID pilots are slick in a lab, you can’t scale them there.
What some RFID companies will not tell you is that the major network equipment vendors are concerned that large-scale RFID implementations can put severe pressure and potentially overpower network infrastructure with its intrinsic constant demand from the vast number of RFID tags.
Pilot RFID implementations for customers typically involve a few readers at one location scanning tags for a selected product line. To scale the initial pilot implementation, additional considerations such as RF interference from neighboring companies, channel assignments, RFID data aggregation, storage, management and mining must be made to achieve ROI and wide-scale business benefit.
Much attention is given to the integration of the RFID tag and tag reader when the real focus should be how the overall RFID “system” works with the legacy business applications and network for ultimate synergy and analysis of data.
RFID is being adopted to provide more information to the enterprise, both yours and your trading partners. Our capability to strategically scale will allow you to take the success from your pilot and build it into an enterprise solution where requisite, beneficial RFID supplied product information is at your fingertips.
